Warm Regards by Kim Diehl flimsy finish

Warm Regards - 60 x 60 " pattern by Kim Diehl.  I have made a few adaptions to the pattern, nothing serious, but appliqued my berries rather then make suffolk puffs.  

Its hard to get a good photo when it takes up most of the space on the lounge room floor.  But I was handing it over to Vicki Jenkin, long arm quilter expert to work her magic.  I am just very lucky that she had a cancellation in her schedule, so there was a rush to get it finished.  It was the push I needed, because other projects are calling me and I was ready to start something new, but did not want this become a UFO.  I have several quilts that are honestly at the stage I need to either throw them out or give them away, but its like that favorite dress you don't fit anymore, because one day I might loose weight / find the motivation to finish that quilt LOL!  Another reason why this quilt is going to the LAQ, because it would never get finished if I was to quilt it!

August is Indigo

There are no indigo scraps left in my scrap basket or in my stash.  There is a tiny bit of black and grey in the scrap basket, and a reasonable amount of each colour in my reproduction stash.  However this is the Rainbow Scrap Challenge, so the stash is stay intact for now!

In the meantime I sewed up the colours I did have excess scrap of. Which when I got down to it included more dark purple...so that sort of counts!  These are "new" scraps that came from the recently finished scrappy bargello in red/purple...they are perfect scraps as they were already cut the right size!

There is still oodles of green scrap in my collection, not sure where it is coming from!  But I want lots of green leaves, so I just kept sewing!

Because I tackled the left over purple from the scrappy bargello, I then had to deal with the red scraps.  There were way more then I realised, and I have the red scraps from the dresden plate quilt (WIP) still to come!

June is Light Blue

I have been on the couch (or the bench as my footy mad kids would say) for ten days suffering from the flu.  Next year I am going to get a flu shot, honestly what a complete waste of time that was, not to mention horrible!

I was so sick I couldn't sew...literally had no interest and couldn't concentrate.  But yesterday, I felt well enough to crank up the sewing machine.  

The colour for June is Light Blue in the Rainbow Scrappy Challenge.

After I made these leaf blocks I got out the remaining 2.5" blue squares and cranked out some more nine patches.  I started out with light and mid blue and then made dark blue as well - because there were so many lurking in the box.  

I have nearly used all my blue squares, only a couple of dark blue left.  But loads of half square triangles are going begging.  I will leave them for another day....might make a nice border, if I ever figure out how I am going to use all these 9 patches together!

I might have been feeling better, but my brain was obviously on holidays.  This is what happens to your normally round stick blender...if you puree the pumpkin soup while it is still on the heat....yes I know to turn it off, but I am still adjusting to electric stove tops and how slow they respond v gas!

Big oops!

Loving log cabin quilts

These are my log cabin blocks measuring 5.5' before I sized them up...well about 83 blocks,  I ended up with 126.

So I like the barn raising set out but with more blocks, bigger blocks I was keen to explore options.

 I think this is called furrows??  That fits with the whole living in the woods and farming theme I guess.  Its nice, but think that it doesn't float my boat enough to commit to.

I have no idea what this setting is called, excuse the boo boo on the bottom row.  Again its nice, but I think it looks way nicer when you have skinny logs on side and fatter the other = a round effect.

 So Barn Raising it is = this is 120 blocks, six spare, hopefully I remember to go on the backing.  Faced with stitching all the blocks into rows I decided I had better get the leader & ender system working.  It was a good idea as I got all the rows stitched and ten new blue leaves.  I have decided to follow along with the Rainbow scrappy challenge and January's colour is blue.  As you can see, the sum total of last years leaders and enders is on the left...this is what the finished product needs to look like.  I will sew them together when I have a bunch more colours.

Of course I have way more half square triangles then I need for leaves.

So just deciding what to do with the rest.  Something to think anyway.

Last but not least these are some of my presents from Lisa - we swap pressies at Christmas time.  She made me a lovely pencil case, a card wallet and a apple oven mitt.  There was also a great bobbin holder, that is in use and didn't make it into the photo.  I have a collection of fruit themed oven mitts, table mats and pin cushions on my Pinterest page - so I especially love this apple ; )
