Meet Me in the Middle of Barcelona

This quilted was started May 2016 with a layer cake called Barcelona and some grey shot cotton.

This pattern is called Meet In the Middle and is free HERE at Jo's Country Junction blog.
You cut 2.5" strips from the layer cake and join them together with your background fabric.

Sew all the strips together.

 

 And voila you have a quilt top!  Just needed some quilting.

Too easy, this quilt looks good, no tricky seams to match and is a perfect single bed/large lap for long teenager's size.

 I am definitely going to make this again, but next time I am going to sew wonky lines across the strips instead of SITD parallel - idea courtesy of Lisa who made the same quilt (if fact the pattern was her idea!) and I much prefer her quilting method.

My UFO list 2017

One more UFO ready for busting! My Red and White Dresden is already in the queue at the LAQ.

 Not really a UFO, given I made the Barcelona single bed sized top in 2016.  Still it is basted and ready for quilting, so needs to happen soon...so it doesn't become a UFO!

My Circa 2016 is a bit more advanced then this photo, but still is a long way off being finished. So its on the to do list for this year.

Again this sweet quilt is not that old, but its just needs quilting.   I had been thinking about making it bigger (and into a lap quilt) but now I just want to finish it as is and enjoy it on my wall!

Some of my "use up the scrap strips" projects are close to being finished, this scrap string lone star just needs borders to make it child size.  

The log cabin in red and green I made last year, is  ready to quilt, once I find a backing.

 I am exhausted thinking about all this potential quilting.  

Oh, goody I have found the photos of the projects that still need piecing!

 

I had to go back to June 2015 to find a photo of the Midwinter Pinwheel Churn Dash quilt.  I made all the blocks and haven't touched it since!  So just need sashing fabric, and it get worked on NOW!

Finally the Woolly basket wall hanging, also needs sashing and potentially a border.

Perhaps I might do a recap in six months time....to keep myself focused.

Piecing in Portland 1

When a girl goes sewing with her Mum and two friends for the weekend you know that you are going to do some serious "finish it up" sewing OR start a new project.

I opted to finish some projects....because I have more UFOs hanging around then I care to admit.  

I only started this modern quilt a few weeks ago, but I wanted a back up project that was easy.

We didn't have room for a design wall, so we had a design floor!  But realistically I just randomly pieced this and didn't not over think where the colours or prints were going.

So here it is with the borders on - a flimsy finished!  

The pattern and fabric colours are not my usual style or taste but it was fun to work outside of my comfort zone and easier then I thought.

Following our weekend of sewing I had a week away with work, which resulted in the purchase of backings.  This is the backing I choose for this quilt - which I am going to call Barcelona, after the fabric range.

a new beginning?

Due to the pain I am having pain in my right shoulder I have been looking to reduce activities that aggravate it.  However I had a days sewing booked in, whats a girl to do?

With minimal time to prepare, I tore through my project boxes looking for an "easy" project for the day.

Alas everything required either fabric purchases (which means a road trip) or was more complicated than I had the brain space for. 

Except for this layer cake, and length of charcoal shot cotton I had bundled together, with a pattern!

 Yep, I started a new project!  With a few turns of the Go Cutter I had my layer cake and background cut into 2.5" strips.  And then I could settle into some mindless piecing.

All that piecing resulted in all these long stripes, which I have also sewed into pairs.

That took all day, but all I have to do is sew the pairs all together and I am 3/4 finished!

A very simple strip quilt, but perfect for my days sewing as everything came out of my stash and I didn't have to think beyond sewing five different strips together.  My colours are very different from this photo, so hope to have a finished top to show you next time!
