Lone star on the line.

I finished quilting and binding the Lone Star cot quilt (51") and was super happy with the straight lines on the diagonal.  This was super easy to quilt, but it had been pinned within an inch of its life!

I love the fabrics I picked, but this photo does wash them out a bit.  The background is a grunge, which I don't love but the quilt shop owner assured me it was "all the range" for a modern quilt.  Now its all together I am happy!

Lisa gifted me two mini charm packs, as a thank you and they were too cute to resist.  I sewed them up quickly into this handy sized table runner and quilted it simply.  I had some striped fabric in my scrap bin, which was leftover backing fabric and it was just enough to back and bind the runner - perfect for Christmas!

The urge hit me to make more Teddy bear sleeping bags ....this time with pillows!

I try and make them in different sizes to use up batting scraps and to suit different sized soft toys.  But I had to add a little scrap fabric to top and bottom of the one on the left, so I could use the cutest fabric featuring a farm house and farm scene on it!  Having lots of fun playing with outrageous colour combinations like pink and yellow!

Teddy sleeping bags

I have been using up some cute scraps and leftover wadding to make teddy bear sleeping bags. These two tigers belong to my youngest son and live in this dolls pram, but without a cute quilt.

Teddy lives in the pram also, but does not see much attention these days, however makes a good model for the larger sleeping bag.  I wanted to make some in pink, but the HST version just became a dolls quilt rather than a sleeping bag.  I like it so much I think I will make one for the pram to live at my house!

There will be few more bags constructed and they are going to extended family who have kids in that 3-6 age group, that play with dolls and  soft toys.

We alternatively had hot , windy and cold weather leading up to the local fleece and flower show.  The flag iris were one of the few things blooming that survived in tact so I picked a lot for the show and them jammed them all into a vase when I got home.  The snowball tree (gilda rose is the other common name it goes by) was looking magnificent.

Another kids charity quilt has been finished using the many donated eye spy fabrics given to me by friends.  I have combined them into the club colours for the Richard Football Club, who won the Aussie rules grand final this year.  Hopefully it makes a small person smile.

Brrr its cold inside!

Poor Tiger, 

he is very cold, despite having a lovely new hot pink mattress and pillow!

So he tried out a lovely scrappy chevron doll quilt, hmm that is warmer.

But this winter has been very cold in Western Victoria and a second quilt was required to keep tiger warm on those frosty nights!

As much as Tiger liked the Ohio Star quilt, he decided it wasn't suitable to go to the snow for the weekend.

So a Tiger sized sleeping bag was whipped up.  All out of the ever dwindling collection of pink in my stash!  Luckily there was just enough of the pink spot in the scrap binding collection.

Unfortunately for Tiger, all of the new bedding was posted off to keep the teddies and dolls warm that belong to a little girl in Adelaide South Australia.  

So he had to go back to sharing a big bed with my "little" boy ;)

Blue and white stars, nearly a flimsy!

I wanted to show you the progress I made on my blue and white stars.  I had intended to work on them while in Bordertown, but spent to much time unpicking! So I pressed and trimmed the blocks this morning.

 Then kicked myself into gear and cut the sashing out and sewed it all together!  The top is now 74"x74" square, so I think I would like to make it a bit larger. I think I will add a small white border and then a blue border.  Just not sure if I will piece the blue border or not.  I do have left over blue squares and considering a piano keys border.  If I find the right blue I might just add a solid border.  Any ideas?

I just realised that I never showed the finished pumpkin table runner, with the binding on.  Not long after finishing it my son knocked a glass of water over on the table and the orange fabrics bleed in two spots onto the white.  I didn't do anything about it immediately but when I washed it with a colour catcher a few days later the bleeding all came out - yippee!  Can you tell I am completely out of the habit of washing new fabrics?!

 I have given up moaning about the return of footy and resigned myself to stitching alone while all the male members of the family watch footy.  Don't worry the kids come in to tell me who is winning at every opportunity, so as to spread the "footy love"!  On the upside all this stitching time means I have finished all the applique on my log cabin miniature.  Quilting and binding come next!

I also made my April Sugar BOM and unpicked March's block as it is too small!

And finally I had to show you another teddy sleeping bag, that I made a couple of weeks ago, its a special request by a friends son, to fit his very small teddy.

Tedding sleeping bags

 I keep forgetting to include my March block from my BOM in a post. Unfortunately it is too small and I will have to unpick it and work out where I went wrong.  I paper pieced the long triangles, so I really hope its not them!

A friend mentioned her two youngest son's liked putting their teddies to bed, so I offered to make them teddy sleeping bags.  This was the perfect exercise for using up wadding scraps and some cute novelty prints from my stash.  

And when you don't do a good job of the quilting, you just add a bit of Velcro and make a little pillow to hide that bit!  I machine stitched the binding both sides, which  I never do it on quilts, but it was super quick and worked well.  And as another bonus I was able to use some scrap binding!

We enjoyed this Adelaide Cup long weekend at the beach, playing tourist in our own state.  We saw some interesting sights, including driving past this quirky house I saw featured on TV...I am a big fan of Grand Designs, but this takes the cake for building head aches I think!   The weather was suitably warm to ensure lots of fun was had dodging the waves at the beach.  

I even fitted in some hand quilting, not at the beach mind you!  I haven't taken a progress shot, but hopefully it will be finished in time for my next post,
