Cot quilt finishes

 This is the first cot quilt I made from the primary coloured fat quarter stack I purchased at a destash sale.  I am pleased I didn't add a border, there is enough fun colour happening in this quilt and its still a good size.  I quilted it myself on my domestic Bernina.  Straight lines are my standard go to quilting, especially for kids quilts where the fun fabrics need to shine.

  Machine quilting does take a toll on my right shoulder, but this wasn't too bad.  I have purchased a new (but ridiculously expensive latex) pillow, but it has helped enormously reduce pain in my shoulder, so go figure clearly it was the way I was sleeping?!  This quilt has been posted to new bub - first grandchild of good friends.   

I have actually delivered these two green chevron bordered quilts to their owners, as we were visiting their home town recently. But sadly in my rush (it was a mad week with both hubby and I away for work, so juggling kids was priority) I forgot to take finished photos.  These two pictured waiting for binding stitched down were delivered to my husbands cousins new babies....well one is nine months and the other two months old!

BUT I do have photos of tops when completed, so that will have to be substitute.

Cot quilt #1

I started out with a fat quarter bundle of kids prints and a desire to make four cot quilts. I found the  pattern in a quick clean up that I had but I cannot find it online to give you a link - sorry!  

I was happy with the blocks, but feeling a bit overwhelmed by all the colour.  

So I trialled some sashing in while (red dots) and blue (tone on tone dots), and the blue won. 

So while I am happy to have one cot quilt flimsy finish, I am still debating if I want to add a border or not.  So it might not actually be "finished"!

Tigers live in India

Do you remember the fabrics that my friend gifted me, which included a panel of animals - I made it into a top a few weeks ago.

So here it is all quilted with a stipple all over.  I could not decide on a name for it....I thought they were all African animals, but the kids tell me that tigers live in India not Africa!

Obviously watching all those David Attenborough documentaries, they have learned something!

When you make a big twister quilt you end up with approximately 4" square scraps from the centre blocks and triangular shapes from the border.  All on the bias.  

Waste not, want not...especially as I also had the two squares that were not quite 10" left over.  I popped them through the Go Cutter, using my 3.5" triangle die.  I started sewing half square triangles and stopped when I ran out! Very pleased to get two quilts out of this fat eighth bundle....oh and yardage of white homespun and pink polka dots for borders....and specially purchased pink flannel for the backing!
Oops better get back to using up the stash!

Cottage Garden Table Runner

I have made significant progress on my Cottage Garden table runner....all the applique done...

followed by FMQ, echo quilted.

While I wasn't thrilled with the quality of all my quilting stitches, I am not so upset that I am going to unpick it all....well I did unpick a little bit ; )

But more unpicking might be necessary if I cannot find a few more inches of this binding fabric...so I have sufficient to join the ends! 

I finally did something with a lovely stack of fat quarters my friend Karen sent me many years ago.  There were lots of coordinating prints and one panel - but there were only eight of these blocks on the panel.  

However I figured out a way to use all 8 blocks and make a lovely cot sized quilt top!  All in an afternoons work...well an afternoon and a bit ;)

PS its going to be 37C here today, so I will be completing some more sewing projects under the air conditioner!
