Circa 2016 is no longer in pieces

Circa 2016 was a series of free quilt blocks to make a entire quilt from Temecula Quilt Co in 2016.  When I go back and look through my blog I did manage to stay fairly on track and was just trying to put it all together in late January 2017.  And from there it stagnated.
I do vaguely remember having a try to put it together once before.  The main issue was that the centre medallion was not the measurement in the pattern. And the side panels were different lengths.  Yep nothing was perfect.  But I pinned the heck out of it over the weekend and when my maths failed, I just kept pinning and sewing.  Its all together now, a nice lap size, but too big for a wall hanging.
Its rippled and a bit stretched.  I dont even want to check how many points I may have lost. Lots of lessons have been learned since then about getting accuracy in small blocks.  Eventually it will get pinned and quilted.  But more importantly I have overcome the tricky bit and as a result I have another empty project box and one less old UFO.
And that means I can justify starting a new quilt...doesn't it?!

My UFO list 2017

One more UFO ready for busting! My Red and White Dresden is already in the queue at the LAQ.
Not really a UFO, given I made the Barcelona single bed sized top in 2016.  Still it is basted and ready for quilting, so needs to happen soon...so it doesn't become a UFO!
My Circa 2016 is a bit more advanced then this photo, but still is a long way off being finished. So its on the to do list for this year.
Again this sweet quilt is not that old, but its just needs quilting.   I had been thinking about making it bigger (and into a lap quilt) but now I just want to finish it as is and enjoy it on my wall!
Some of my "use up the scrap strips" projects are close to being finished, this scrap string lone star just needs borders to make it child size.
The log cabin in red and green I made last year, is  ready to quilt, once I find a backing.
I am exhausted thinking about all this potential quilting.
Oh, goody I have found the photos of the projects that still need piecing!

I had to go back to June 2015 to find a photo of the Midwinter Pinwheel Churn Dash quilt.  I made all the blocks and haven't touched it since!  So just need sashing fabric, and it get worked on NOW!
Finally the Woolly basket wall hanging, also needs sashing and potentially a border.
Perhaps I might do a recap in six months time....to keep myself focused.

Working on Circa 2016 in 2017!

So my excuse is that I was busy!  Honestly from September to December my work and personal life was flat chat.  So I stopped working on my Circa 2016 quilt.
I had made the hour glass blocks, but they were too big.  Easy peasy, took a larger seam allowance, problem fixed!  Yet the points still look good.  These might become my favorite block!
I tried to replicate the placement of the blocks as per the finished quilt on Temecula's blog.
However colour and tone were sometimes an issue.  As much as possible I tried to let "it just happen" in a haphazard and scrappy way.
I got one side border completed and was feeling very pleased with myself.
I failed to notice the side border was short by two blocks!  Some quick unpicking and that was fixed.
I realise the fat borders are too big, but the setting triangles were too big, so pattern requires you to to trim - fine for fat borders, nightmare stuff for loooong borders!

Circa 2016 - finished making blocks

I have been busy catching up on the outstanding blocks for my Circa 2016 quilt.
Large half square triangles, seem very boring after the different blocks we have been making.  I only need three different ones, but at this late stage I wasn't wasting the other block!
Fairly sure I hadn't made this block before. Then checked my collection and I had.  Not sure if I doubled up or Temecula Quilt shop asked us to. Either way I love these star blocks and have hand written out the instructions so I can make a mini quilt of them at a later date.
I love a nine patch, always happy to make more and there were plenty of pre cut 1.5" squares to choose from.  It seemed a pity to stop at 3!
Someone pointed out online that the finished quilt is pictured on the Temecula Quilt shop blogs header.  After seeing this (as small as it is) I have decided to NOT make 120 half square triangles.  Well and to be honest I have kind of run out of enthusiasm!  I love my little blocks though and looking forward to putting them all together.

Circa 2016 Medallion

Work on my Circa 2016 quilt top has been progressing in stops and starts.  Now that I own the perfect background for the blocks I needed to cut into it and start the medallion centre.
That was fine until I realised that my pinwheel centers were not perfect.  I think they will stay as they are but  I was disappointed in myself.  I do try to be accurate and with little blocks it is more obvious if you rush and dont take care.
Work on hourglass blocks has commenced, but I need to make some more and trim those that are made.
At this point I am trying to add variety but seem to drift back to favorite fabrics!
Apparently I need 120 half square triangles, so I have to start those now, as this free pattern is about to come to an end.....and I am not quite caught up!

More Temecula Circa 2016 Blocks

More Temecula Circa 2016 blocks.

Funnily enough I had been putting off making these two blocks!
Lots of little triangles in a 3" finished block, go figure!

Which made these two easy peasy!
But I couldn't understand why the pattern was for half square triangles.  I made flying geese instead with flippy corners.
Then I really did need to make flying geese!
Finally this block is called Little Trees - no idea why!
Nearly all caught up now :)

Circa 2016 blocks

Temecula Circa 2016 - three Rail Fence blocks, 3.5" unfinished. Just realised the light strip is suppose to be in the centre, so a little unpicking required on one block!
Catching up slowly.  These are the four Pinwheel blocks that go in the center of this quilt.
I love these bright colours. Quite a few of these fabrics were a gift for my birthday last year from my friend Vicki.  I normally use a muddy palette, but it has been nice to steer towards brights.
More action to show after I get my computer fixed - so blogging is quicker and easier ;)

Circa 2016 little blocks

Yes I started a new project and its a BOM!  I know your suppose to sew along but I am a bit slow on the uptake - better late then never!
These are not in the order I have stitched them nor the order they were posted by Temecula Quilt Company.
I have been driving myself nuts trying to keep a record of what I have made and which blocks I still need to sew.
Further more I drive myself crazy popping back and forth between the desk top computer, which is in a different room to my sewing machine.
As I cut fabric, pop back to check the measurements, cut more fabric, pop back to work out which ones need stitching first.  Lay the design out on my small design board and then go back and sew them!
And I consider this all fun!  And potentially I get a bit more exercise!
If you saw me in action, some people would consider this nothing short of crazy!
I now have a little tin full of cute 3.5" blocks.
And plenty more to make, I am going to be boring you silly with these for awhile yet : )

Kim Diehl star in a churn dash blocks

I was just popping in to read some of my favorite bloggers, after a six month absence!  Then I saw that there was this draft post, so figure...
